THE ARTFUL GARDEN

"The Artful Garden" is a metaphor suggesting how we can sow seeds of creative ideas. Gardens start with small seeds, much like ideas and art. They both need to be fed, nurtured and loved in order to thrive. This "garden" is a safe place to be both inspired and inspiring to others. It is a way to share who you are and promote forward movement within your life. A way to realize that you are not alone. Please join our "conversation" any time by posting your thoughts, questions and ideas in the comment section of
"the garden."

Hello everyone~
I finally finished my last packet for the semester and I am sooooo excited! I kept telling myself that I would be able to read Eat, Pray, Love when I finished the semester and I am excited to say that I just started it. The first part of the book talks about pleasure and I have been thinking about what brings me pleasure and wondered what brought you pleasure.

Travel and visiting with friends is one thing that is quite pleasurable for me. I am happy to say that I will be traveling to Arizona to see Danielle for a week on Wednesday. We are going on a road trip adventure to Sedona! WHOOOooo HOOooo! Hopefully we will have time to take some pictures, hike, maybe a little writing or painting....I will let you know.

How do you find pleasure?

I read this post and this poem came forward in its most raw of forms...funny how creativity works...

Where is pleasure?

Pleasure is hiding
in the swift embrace
of my children…
The soft touch
Of a loving hand…
Pleasure lurks at the
back door, but will I
open it?
Pleasure sings in the
wind if I only take the
time to listen...
Pleasure dwells
deep within
the nooks and crannies
of my heart
set it free...
Pleasure dances
in the light of each full moon
as my heart swells with
appreciation
Pleasure threatens
to overtake my willful ways
if only I could let go of the control...
Pleasure sleeps
Awake sheer pleasure!
Come through my door
dazzle my soul
and let me dance into
the night of surrender
ahhhh...

What a beautiful poem! What a treat to wake up to. Thank you!
I have been reading eat, pray, love also. Elizabeth has been on Oprah twice and I have been trying to follow her advice to add what I really, really, really want to my journal as well as the happiest moment of each day.
I struggle this time of the year with the lack of sun and the lack of a family during the holidays. Thanks for sharing your story Liz (and please tell Jon I said hello)it is comforting to know I am not alone.
I agree with Laura that friends and traveling are important to me ( I wish I was there, say hi to cousin Kevin) I also try to find pleasure in the everyday things like cooking, I just love when I sit down with Charlie and Sonya and enjoy a yummy home cooked meal.
With the holidays coming I am going to enjoy each day as it comes and cherish the simple pleasures of the season and I am choosing to be at PEACE with myself.
Peace to all,
Brigitte

Hello everyone~
I am just checking in. Tomorrow I will fly back to CT and will feel more present in "the garden". Although it has been quite cold and rainy in AZ I have had a delightful time seeing Phoenix and Maricopa (where Danielle lives). We visited Scottsdale which was one of my favorite places. There was so much art to see and cute little shops. We went on a beautiful hike in the moutains in Phoenix on the only warm day that I was here. Our Hopes of hiking in Sedona diminished as we watched the temperature drop on our drive out there. It actually snowed when we were there! I couldn't believe it, as I was hoping to get away from cold, but we embraced it. The view from our inn was amazingly beautiful with a warm fireplace where we were able to admire the beautiful red rocks covered in snow. Sedona had a very different feeling in the snow than when I had been there before. It was a different kind of lovely that is hard to explain.

Tomasen~ I loved your poem! So thoughtful and lovely as you are. I wanted you to know how much I am enjoying Elizabeth Gilbert's book. It is the perfect book for me to be reading right now, but I guess that is how the book is from what I understand. It just hits you at the right time. There are so many things that I wish to talk about and wonder how the book effected other people and what things resonated with them when they read it.

Brigitte~
Hang in there with the weather. I was just talking to Michelle and she has a sun lamp that she sits in front of for 15 minutes a day that she says works really well with the depressing side of winter. Couldn't hurt, might help? You have also reminded me of the simple pleasures of the season and I cannot wait to decorate and do some baking when I get home. Talk to you soon....xoLaura

Laura- I'm so excited that you are finally getting a chance to read Eat, Pray, Love. Tomasen - Thanks for recommending it to everyone. It's such a great book for all women to read. It seems to read all different stages of life - married, mother, grandmother, widowed, divorced, etc. etc. What it says can resonate with SO many different women! I've given it as a Christmas gift to my mother and my sister this year. And I too have been watching Elizabeth on Oprah. One of the things they have discussed that I like best is that you don't have to go across the globe to have the kind of experiences and realizations that she does in the book. There are so many little things we can do in our everyday lives to recognize ourselves a little better. Laura- It seems that many of us have read & connected with this book. Perhaps it could be the topic of our discussion one of these weeks as it seems it has touched us all but I'm sure we will all have different perspectives on it.

Hope you guys had fun together - Laura & Danielle! Bridgette - Jon says hi too!

(: Happy Holidays to you all! - Liz
